Daily Fetch 6.22.10: Budget Showdown – Week II

Today is the budget showdown, delayed by a week, in San Jose.  It seems that most of the city unions came to the table to help fix the budget mess… but not all.  And the “but not all” that we are talking about are the police and firefighters, which means the real savings of a 10 percent cut in salary and benefits won’t be realized, which means that chaos may insue at today’s Council meeting… One oddity in the story:  the Police Officers’ Association chief is talking to the Mercury News, but the Firefighters leader “could not be reached for comment“…
This is a really big week for the San Jose (International) Airport… not because they are adding flights and thankfully not because more flights are getting cut, but the new Terminal B is opening up and from the looks of things, it will be pretty cool.  Now, if only the airlines would come back… This is a big story in the Merc.  This is a big story in the Merc.
Speaking of Supervisors… Scott Herhold at the Mercury News leaves his sentimental self from Sunday by the wayside to re-take on George Shirakawa and Shirakawa’s poor understanding of how to manage his office budget… Note to Supervisor Shirakawa:  Learn from Dolores Carr’s mistakes, make this right or Herhold will never, ever, ever let you live it down…
Dude… Pot club ordinance in San Jose, but no clubs in “sensitive areas“…
Alviso Mayor on the Water District Dick Santos fights back with a Letter to the Editor
As if Palo Alto residents weren’t connected enough to the City of Palo Alto decision-making process the City of Palo Alto is going viral on Facebook and Twitter… @NIMBY anyone?
Oh no… the big city comes to Los Gatos:  ”Los Gatos police warn against leaving valuables in vehicles“… time to move further up the hill we guess.
In South County the County seems to be pushing the Lions Club out of their cozy home on Murphy Avenue.  Perhaps the County needs the money to pay for Shirakawa’s office budget…
On that note… have a good day.  If you feel included, become our friend on Facebook
